This festival is celebrated for four days starting the,
- First-day celebration with burning of unwanted materials at home.
- Second-day celebration for the Sun with special pooja.
- Third and Fourth Day celebration are for the farmers and bullocks.
Also, this festival marks the end of the winter solstice and the start of the Sun’s six-month-long journey northwards when the Sun enters the zodiac, Makara. Hence this festival is also called as “Makara Sankranthi“.
